Look at the bottom of a website built on Cantrip's free tier and you'll see a purple bar: "This page is powered by Cantrip," linking back to us. If you've gone looking for a way to turn that off, the honest answer surprises most people. There's no button for it.
The badge isn't a setting buried in your dashboard. It's tied directly to whether you're paying for the site. The moment your account picks up an active subscription, the badge disappears on its own. Stay on the free plan and it stays exactly where it is, no matter which theme you picked.
That trips people up because most tools make you hunt for a "remove branding" checkbox somewhere in account settings. Cantrip never built one, because the badge was never meant to be a feature you configure. It's the actual cost of the free tier. We host your site and keep it running, and in exchange it tells visitors who built it. Pay for the plan and that trade ends automatically, no request to us required.
None of this is unique to Cantrip, for the record. Free hosting isn't actually free to run, so something has to cover the cost somewhere. A footer bar you can see and click past is one honest way to do that. Ads slipped into your pages without much warning are a less honest one. The badge is just Cantrip picking the version you can see coming.
If you're running a free site and that bar at the bottom is starting to bug you, take it as a decent signal. It usually shows up right around the time you start caring what your site looks like to strangers, which is exactly when a few dollars a month stops feeling optional.
